Tracks ranked by number of sub 1'45" performances

Wilson Kipketer

The fastest track in the world?

The Letzigrund stadium in Zürich can rightfully claim to be the most prolific venue when it comes to fast 800 meter times. It can show twice as many sub-1:45" performances compared to almost any other ground.
In 1997 Zürich could even celebrate a world record (see picture) when Wilson Kipketer finally broke Sebastian Coe's long standing mark. The list of winners features a host of illustrious names including many Olympic and World Champions. Among them are Mike Boit, Alberto Juantorena, Sebastian Coe, Joaquim Cruz, Steve Cram, Johnny Gray, Billy Konchellah, Paul Ereng, William Tanui, André Bucher and of course Wilson Kipketer.
