The fastest 800m races of all time

Preparing for a dazzling contest The athletes in the 1999 Van Damme Memorial 800 m race bend down in concentration on their start. From the inside : Mark Everett, Djabir Saïd-Guerni, Nils Schumann, Andrea Longo, Japheth Kimutai, André Bucher, Hezekiél Sepeng, Wilson Kipketer, James McIlroy, William Chirchir and David Kiptoo. The race would prove to be one of the fastest races ever, with four athletes going below 1:43 for only the second time in history and six athletes going below 1:43.5 for the first time ever.
