The indefatigable Johnny Gray celebrates after having won the 1999 PanAmerican games at the age of 39!
From 1984 onwards Johnny Gray was one of the most consistent 800m athletes. He broke 1.45.00 no less than 65 times, and was world leader in both 1988 and 1992. He was also the holder of the US record for over 30 years, from 1985 to 2019.
Over the last years of his career his durability was quite extraordinary. He still holds several age records (see below) and most of them appear very hard to beat.
