Johnny Gray

The master at work!

The indefatigable Johnny Gray celebrates after having won the 1999 PanAmerican games at the age of 39!

From 1984 onwards Johnny Gray was one of the most consistent 800 m athletes. He broke 1.45.00 no less than 65 times, and was world leader in both 1988 and 1992. He is also still the holder of the US record, set as long ago as 1985.

Over the last years of his career his durability was quite extraordinary. He now holds a vast array of age records (see below) and especially the later ones appear very hard to beat.
